Center for New Thinking Director Sherwin T. Wine
An impassioned and experienced speaker, Sherwin T. Wine dazzles audiences several times a month with his lectures on issues ranging from science to self-esteem, from historical controversy to best-selling books. He is the founder of the Center for New Thinking, a forum for the presentation of new ideas in the arts, sciences, philosophy and personal growth. The Center seeks to encourage open thinking and approaches to the problems of modern life.
Over the past 22 years, a
large number of people in the metropolitan Detroit area have been meeting regularly to
confront the basic issues in our society. They are attending the Center for New Thinking,
the nation's only ongoing public forum for the presentation of innovative ideas in the
arts, sciences, philosophy and history. The Center is reminiscent of the bygone era of
salons when ideas were passionately communicated and shared.
Sherwin T. Wine opened the doors to the Center in January, 1977. Dynamic and charismatic,
Wine stuns newcomers with his ability to relay ideas and information with
clarity, and with his genius for drama and humor. As chief lecturer, Wine transforms every
presentation into a work of art. Founder of a new movement in Jewish life called
Humanistic Judaism, Wine is a rabbi, philosopher and teacher.
The Center presents two weekly programs, every Tuesday
evening and Thursday morning, and a monthly program every Sunday morning. All public
forums are held in the Birmingham, Michigan area. There have been over 2000 lecture
programs since the founding of the Center.
Through public demand, these lectures have been taped and distributed to a wide audience.
Thousands of people all over the world have enjoyed the lectures of Sherwin Wine. The
Center tapes have given the ideas and style of this extraordinary teacher an international
audience.
